Situated on one of the most beautiful islands in the world, the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College is an accredited college that offers three bachelor of applied science degrees, a wide variety of associate degrees and certificates, as well as distance learning degrees through its UH Center on campus. This non-credit section of College Chorus continues building skills developed in the first eight-week session. Designed for returning participants and experienced singers, the course deepens vocal technique, expands music theory knowledge, and refines ensemble performance. While open to all, new participants should have prior choral experience or instructor approval. The session concludes with a public performance.

This non-credit section of Hawaiian Chorus offers a welcoming space for community members and non-students to explore choral singing in the Hawaiian language. Over eight weeks, participants will learn foundational vocal techniques, basic music theory, pronunciation, and ensemble performance practices rooted in Hawaiian musical traditions. Open to singers of all levels, the course culminates in a group performance.

Hawaiian Music Performance 1 Section 2

his non-credit section of Hawaiian Music Performance 1 provides an inclusive environment for community members and non-students to develop instrumental and vocal performance skills with Hawaiian repertoire. The eight-week course covers fundamental basic music theory, individual and group performance, and is open to performers and aspiring performers of all levels. The session concludes with a group performance.

Lei Hulu

Celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Hawaiʻi through the traditional art of lei hulu—feather lei making. In this hands-on course, participants will learn the technique of crafting intricate feather lei used for adornment and honor. Students will be guided by a skilled instructor in creating their own lei.

Resin Art for Beginners

In this course, students will learn the basics of resin art, including safety precautions, the different types of resin, dos and don'ts and best practices when handling and creating with resin. Class will begin with an oral presentation, and followed with a tutorial of various techniques. Students will then create a pair of coasters or a pair of ornaments. Students will finish their projects with a top layer to ensure their final creation is smooth.

* Students should be warned that resin can ruin clothing, and while aprons will be provided, they should wear something that they don't mind getting dirty. Students will also be required to wear a face mask and glasses for safety. Students with long hair should tie it back.

Discover the art of ulana lauhala (hala weaving) in this four-week hands-on workshop. Participants will learn about the hala tree—its parts, gathering practices, and preparation techniques—before exploring different weaving techniques to create three unique items.

The course will focus on digital communication platforms commonly used in business, including email, video conferencing, instant messaging, discussion forums, and online collaboration tools. Substitute Teacher

This course is intended for people who want to become Hawai’i Department of Education (HIDOE) substitute teachers in elementary, middle/intermediate, and/or high schools (K-12). Students who successfully complete the course will receive a certificate of completion, and will be eligible to apply to become a HIDOE substitute teacher. Merely completing the course does not guarantee employment as a substitute teacher with the HIDOE.

Electrician Continued Competency

Effective July 1, 1995, all electricians in categories EJ, EJI, EJS, ES, ESI, and ESS (Maintenance Electricians – EM category are exempt from this requirement) will need to complete a continued competency requirement and pay the applicable fees in order to renew their license. The deadline to renew your license is June 30, 2026. Failure to renew your license by paying the applicable fee and meeting the continued competency requirement (attending the continued competency course) shall constitute a forfeiture of the license effective July 1, 2026. A forfeited license does not allow you to perform electrical work. You have one year from June 30, 2026 to restore your license. If you fail to restore your license by June 30, 2027, you will need to reapply as a new applicant. Language and Communication

Intermediate American Sign Language

In this intermediate course, students will learn to apply communication skills in American Sign Language (ASL) based on previous training. The course will focus on observing expressive and receptive skills through the use of hand signage. Students will be introduced to members of the deaf and hard of hearing community to practice acquired language skills in social settings. All students are welcome but, the instructor is strongly suggests taking LANG6709 Introduction to ASL prior to this intermediate class.

Tai Chi (Yang Style): Meditation and Martial Arts

It's known by many names but whether you are just starting to explore Tai Chi, Qigong, or Tai Qi, or have been practicing for years, this course has no requirements nor necessary equipment. All are welcome. As people all over the world have discovered, Tai Chi is a powerful and natural way to address health conditions, stimulate inner healing, and live a happy, healthy life. Sifu Dan Takamura and his Instructors will be leading our Martial Arts classes. We offer students 90-minute sessions (on Wednesdays and Saturdays starting 2024). Classes will be held in LAU226 and/or outdoors on our beautiful UHMC Quad. Please bring water and a towel if necessary, shoes and comfortable clothes are recommended.

Tao Style Kung Fu for Self-Defense

Sifu Dan Takamura offers Taichi classes for health and wellness and Kung Fu classes for Self-defense while learning internal and external power for cardio and fitness. Part of the Maui Chinese Martial Academy for over 25 years, he has done Lion Dances, Kung Fu, and Tai Chi performances.  Tao style was known for its mystical and spiritual side of Kung Fu. Instructors will teach you how to utilize your internal and external strengths and increase your spiritual power. Individuals will have the opportunity to learn a one-of-a-kind martial art. Beginners will learn eight steps, six blocks, and basic five elemental sets and as they improve they will learn other more advanced forms. All students must complete a UHMC Liability Waiver Form before partaking in our fitness classes. Please bring water and a towel if necessary, comfortable clothing and shoes are recommended

Zumba Fitness Dance fitness classes that are fun, energetic, and make you feel amazing. Each Zumba class is designed to bring people together to sweat it on. Once the Latin and World rhythms take over, you'll see why Zumba Fitness classes are often called exercise in disguise. A total workout, combining all elements of fitness – cardio, muscle conditioning, balance and flexibility, boosted energy and a serious dose of awesome each time you leave class. Students adjust to their own level of comfort and fitness. Culinary Arts

Beginning Food Business (MFIC)

Transform your food idea into a sellable product. This course will guide you through developing a food prototype, finding your first customers, and setting achievable business goals. Key topics include an introduction to food entrepreneurship, developing your business idea, creating a food prototype, and laying the foundation for future growth.

This is an online, self-paced course. This course includes an optional in-person tour of the MFIC facility at Maui College to start thinking about the equipment needed for producing at scale. This course also includes 5 hours of MFIC facility time.

MFIC Applied Studies in Fundamental Food Manufacturing

Facility laboratory class for students currently or previously enrolled in BUS 6822, BUS 6821, or BUS 6820 to work on value-added food product, R&D students will set food product development and manufacturing goals, journal their progress, and write a reflection at the end of their experience.

The course is self-directed. Access to the kitchen is by appointment and scheduled through the course instructor.
